Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have recovered additional items abandoned by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists as they fled following a failed attack on troops at Kukawa, Borno State.
The recovery was made on 2 September 2026 during sustained exploitation operations conducted by troops in the Alagarno axis, northeast of Kukawa, following the terrorist attack of 29 August 2026.
Among the items recovered were additional motorcycles, three blankets, a jackknife, an extra-large prayer mat, cups, tea-making items, a rope, a head warmer and a pair of trousers bearing bloodstains, alongside other personal effects.
The bloodstained clothing and abandoned items, according to the Joint Task Force, indicate that some of the fleeing terrorists may have suffered casualties during the earlier encounter and abandoned their equipment and personal belongings while withdrawing from the area.
The latest recovery followed the successful repulsion of the terrorist attack on Kukawa, during which coordinated ground and air operations inflicted significant losses on the attackers and disrupted their withdrawal.
The troops have since sustained exploitation and clearance operations within the general area in a bid to deny the terrorists freedom of action and prevent them from regrouping.
The Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, said it remains committed to sustaining operational pressure on terrorist elements and consolidating recent gains towards restoring lasting peace and security across the North East.
