The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has rearrested two ex-convicts, Rose Daniel and Blessing John, for allegedly abducting and trafficking children, rescuing a four-year-old girl in the process.
The suspects were arrested on August 27, 2026, by operatives of the Command in Kuje, Abuja, while allegedly attempting to flee with the abducted child, identified as Ummi Mariam Abdullah.
According to the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the suspects were apprehended following credible intelligence and a report by a concerned member of the community who witnessed the incident and promptly alerted the police.
Adeh said police operatives responded swiftly, rescued the child and arrested both suspects.
She disclosed that preliminary investigations showed that Daniel and John had previously been arrested in December 2025 and prosecuted for a similar offence.
According to her, the suspects were convicted and subsequently released on bail after spending about five months in prison.
Adeh said further investigation revealed that following their release, the suspects allegedly abducted and trafficked four children to different parts of the country.
She added that the most recent incident involved two children who were allegedly taken to a regular accomplice in Port Harcourt, identified only as Madam Ijeoma, who allegedly purchased the children for N1.5 million each.
The rescued four-year-old girl has since been reunited with her family, while the two suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue.
The FCT police spokesperson said the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
Adeh urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and pay close attention to the safety and whereabouts of their children and wards.
She also called on members of the public to promptly report suspicious persons, movements and activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines.
