The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, has warned the party’s governorship candidates against hate speech, ethnic and religious profiling, and making promises they have no intention of fulfilling as they commence preparations for the 2027 general election.
Mark gave the warning on Monday in Abuja at a consultation meeting with the ADC governorship candidates from across the states, where he urged them to ensure that their campaigns reflect the values and vision of the party.
He cautioned the candidates against empty promises, saying failure to fulfil campaign pledges when elected could undermine the integrity of the ADC.
“We are ADC. Our campaign must reflect the kind of country that we would like to build. Avoid hate speech, ethnic or religious profiling. We cannot be associated with violence in whatever form. Unlike the ruling party and the President, ADC does not believe that all is fair in politics,” he stated.
The ADC chairman also directed the governorship candidates to familiarise themselves with the party’s Governance and Ethical Principles as articulated in its ‘Orange Book’, as well as the party’s manifesto.
He said adherence to the principles would help the candidates conduct issue-based campaigns consistent with the kind of country the party seeks to build.
Responding, the governorship candidates expressed gratitude to the party for providing them with the platform to contest the 2027 election.
They also expressed delight at the decision of the party and its presidential candidate to anchor the campaign on reducing the cost of living for Nigerians, particularly through the restoration of fuel subsidy to bring down the price of fuel.
The candidates subsequently pledged their loyalty to the ADC and vowed to make the party proud by winning their respective elections.
