Troops of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 16 civilians from suspected terrorists during separate operations in Zamfara State and repelled a terrorist attack in Sokoto State.
The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday.
Danja said the troops of Sector 2 responded to a distress call in the early hours of Friday following an attempted terrorist attack on a community in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
According to him, the terrorists attempted to abduct residents but fled following the swift intervention of the troops.
He said four civilians were rescued, while the troops subsequently dominated the area to prevent further terrorist activity.
Danja said later the same day, the troops responded to intelligence on terrorist activities around Kwanoni Village in Tsafe Local Government Area of the state.
He said the terrorists were attempting to abduct passengers travelling in two vehicles when the troops arrived and engaged them in a firefight.
“Consequently, all 12 passengers were rescued, while no casualty was recorded among the troops,” he said.
In a separate incident in Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State, Danja said terrorists attacked around Jabo Village but were repelled by the troops.
He said the troops engaged the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to withdraw in disarray.
According to him, two civilians sustained gunshot wounds during the attack and were evacuated for medical attention.
Danja said the troops continued to dominate the area to prevent the terrorists from regrouping and carrying out further attacks.
He said the successful rescue of the 16 civilians and the repulsion of the attack demonstrated the determination of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to protect lives and frustrate terrorist activities across the Joint Operations Area.
