Troops of the Joint Task Force North-West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have arrested three suspected terrorist collaborators, recovered two locally fabricated guns and 13 rounds of ammunition, and destroyed terrorist enclaves in Kaduna and Katsina states.
The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday.
Danja said the troops of Sector 1 arrested a suspected terrorist collaborator in Kaduna State on Thursday, August 27, following credible intelligence.
According to him, two locally fabricated guns and 13 rounds of ammunition concealed in a bag were recovered from the suspect.
He said preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect had been tasked to deliver the weapons and ammunition to another individual.
“Acting on the information from the suspect, troops swiftly conducted a follow-up operation and apprehended two additional suspects connected with the movement of the weapons,” Danja said.
He added that the three suspects, alongside the recovered weapons, ammunition and other items, were undergoing further investigation.
In Katsina State, Danja said troops of Sector 2, supported by other security agencies, conducted a clearance operation around Maharba and Karaduwa in Matazu Local Government Area on Friday, August 28.
He said the operation resulted in the destruction of identified terrorist enclaves and structures allegedly used to support criminal activities.
Danja said troops also cleared and destroyed an enclave linked to a notorious terrorist leader, Kachalla Muhammadu Filani, whose group had been terrorising residents of Matazu and Musawa local government areas.
He said Filani narrowly escaped as the troops advanced towards his enclave.
The operation, according to him, led to the recovery of an RPG-7 tube, a motorcycle, mobile phones and other items.
“Troops thereafter conducted further fighting patrols within the general area to consolidate the gains and deny the terrorists freedom of action,” he said.
Danja said the operations were part of sustained efforts by Operation FANSAN YAMMA to dismantle terrorist networks, disrupt the movement of weapons and logistics, and deny terrorists the use of enclaves across the Joint Operations Area.
He assured that the Joint Task Force remained committed to coordinated and intelligence-driven operations aimed at degrading the capabilities of terrorists and restoring peace and security to affected communities.
