The Defence Headquarters has dismissed as fake an AI-generated video circulating on social media, purporting to show the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, making statements suggesting partisan political support.
The Director, Defence Information, Maj. Gen. Samaila Uba, said in a statement on Thursday that the video did not emanate from the CDS and that the statements attributed to him were false.
Uba described the video as a product of artificial intelligence-generated manipulation allegedly designed to deceive the public, misrepresent the position of the Chief of Defence Staff and bring the Armed Forces of Nigeria into disrepute.
He stressed that the Armed Forces remained a professional, apolitical and non-partisan institution committed to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the defence of the nation.
The Defence Headquarters condemned the creation and circulation of the fabricated video and warned those responsible, as well as individuals knowingly amplifying the material, to desist.
It urged members of the public to disregard the video and rely only on information issued through the official communication channels of the Defence Headquarters.
