The Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers Union (RATTAWU) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi as Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), describing him as a man of integrity, competence and proven capacity.
RATTAWU President, Comrade Prince Emeka Kalu, gave the commendation during a media and security engagement with the DSS Director-General, where Ajayi was honoured with the Golden Era Pillar of Critical and Strategic Intelligence for National Development Award.
The award, according to the union, was designed to recognise individuals and institutions that have made outstanding contributions to national development, security, democracy, culture and the growth of Nigeria.
Kalu described Ajayi as a “silent achiever” and a competent and detribalised Nigerian whose commitment to national service transcends ethnic, religious and political considerations.
He said the appointment demonstrated the importance of placing Nigerians with integrity and professional competence in strategic positions of national responsibility.
The RATTAWU president also underscored the importance of the DSS in protecting Nigeria’s national interests, gathering critical intelligence and supporting national security, particularly amid complex security threats and emerging technological challenges.
He said RATTAWU, as an umbrella union for workers in the radio, television, theatre and arts sectors, had a responsibility to use its platforms to promote responsible communication, peace, national unity and democratic values.
Kalu said the union would continue to provide platforms for citizen sensitisation as Nigeria prepares for the forthcoming general elections, stressing the need for the media and creative sectors to play a greater role in combating misinformation, promoting tolerance and encouraging responsible democratic participation.
He further called for stronger collaboration among security agencies, the media, creative professionals and organised labour to promote a peaceful and cohesive Nigeria.
Responding, Ajayi thanked the RATTAWU leadership for the recognition, describing the award as a significant gesture that would encourage him and the DSS to remain committed to their responsibilities to the nation.
The DSS director-general urged RATTAWU to remain committed to values that promote national cohesion, tolerance, peace and unity, noting that they were essential to Nigeria’s stability and development.
Ajayi also expressed his readiness for constructive engagement with the union, particularly in areas that could foster meaningful partnerships and institutional collaboration between the DSS and RATTAWU.
He expressed optimism that such engagements would strengthen cooperation and contribute to greater national cohesion.
