The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has dismissed 37 personnel over offences including job racketeering, bribery, gun running and other acts of misconduct, reaffirming its zero-tolerance policy against corruption within the service.
Commandant General of the Corps, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, disclosed this in Abuja during the induction of 100 officers of the Anti-Fraud Unit drawn from formations nationwide and the launch of two books authored by the Head of the Unit, Commandant of Corps Emeribe Chinyere Victory.
Audi said integrity remains the cornerstone of effective service delivery, stressing that the Corps cannot successfully protect lives and property or maintain public order without ethical conduct and accountability.
He warned that fraud and corruption undermine public confidence and weaken the operational effectiveness of the Corps.
”Fraud and corruption are insidious threats that can undermine our efforts, erode public trust and compromise the very fabric of our agency. Today, we reaffirm our commitment to ethical conduct and accountability,” he said.
The NSCDC boss revealed that while 37 personnel had already been dismissed, some would also face prosecution for their alleged involvement in criminal activities, including job racketeering, bribery and illegal arms dealings.
Earlier, the Head of the Anti-Fraud Unit, Commandant of Corps Emeribe Chinyere Victory, said the unit has continued to strengthen transparency and accountability within the Corps through investigation, prevention and detection of corrupt practices involving personnel and contractors.
She noted that the Anti-Fraud Unit, established in 2007 and first trained at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Institute in 2008, has benefited from sustained capacity building under successive leaderships.
Victory commended the Commandant General for providing an enabling environment that has allowed the unit to discharge its responsibilities without interference.
The event also featured the presentation of two books authored by Victory, The Dark Side of Duty and The Anti-Fraud Lexicon, reviewed by retired Assistant Controller General Hammed Abodurin.
Goodwill messages were delivered by representatives of the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Correctional Service.
