The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has concluded a specialised United Nations-backed counter-terrorism investigations training in Morocco, with the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, reaffirming the Force’s commitment to strengthening intelligence-led policing and deepening global collaboration in the fight against terrorism and transnational crime.
The specialised Counter-Terrorism Investigations Train-the-Trainer Programme, held from July 13 to 31, 2026, in Rabat, Kingdom of Morocco, was organised by the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) under its Global Counter-Terrorism Investigations Programme in collaboration with Al Akhawayn University.
The training brought together law enforcement officers from Nigeria, Kenya, and Burkina Faso to enhance institutional cooperation and build professional capacity in tackling terrorism, violent extremism and organised transnational crime.
A ten-member Nigeria Police Force delegation led by ACP Favour Fadawa of the Nigeria Police Academy participated in the programme, which focused on strengthening investigative competencies, promoting intelligence-led counter-terrorism operations, identifying terrorist networks, dismantling criminal structures, preserving admissible evidence and ensuring accountability in line with the rule of law.
Speaking on the outcome of the training, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, NPM, psc(+), described effective counter-terrorism investigations as critical to both national and global security.
He expressed confidence that the knowledge and skills acquired by the Nigerian delegation would significantly enhance the operational capacity of the Force in responding to emerging security threats and increasingly sophisticated transnational criminal networks.
The Inspector-General of Police directed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Training and Development, DIG Isyaku Mohammed, PhD, FCNA, and the Commandant of the Nigeria Police Academy to immediately institutionalise the training outcomes across the Force.
He also disclosed that the accreditation and commencement process for the proposed Executive Master’s Programme at the Nigeria Police Academy is at an advanced stage.
IGP Disu further commended the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT), Al Akhawayn University, participating countries, and the Government and people of the Kingdom of Morocco for hosting and supporting the initiative.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to building a modern, intelligence-driven and professionally competent policing institution capable of effectively combating terrorism and transnational crime while contributing to regional and global peace.
